This is a blog about The Meadow Man, a feature length animation in the works By David Firth. This is mainly a solo project so it will take many years. Don't worry, this project is still alive!

Current status update.

1. I am almost pleased with the script. It still changes every day, but I feel the basics are all there.

2. I have sketched most of the main characters. There are loads of minor characters that need designing but the main ones are down.

3. I have certain scenes, areas, backgrounds sketched and designed.

4. I am almost ready to start recording dialogue.

5. I am making a "making of" video as I make this.

follow me on twitter for fast blasts.

  3. Thanks for the update my squirly friend. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that scores of us will wait for however long it takes for Meadow Man.

Does it feel like an unscalable mountain at this point, or are you fairly pumped?

  5. Paul: I'll try.
Titty: It's a mountain, but I'm pretty pumped.
Invittro: You're doing a good job.

  6. The amount of time you've put in, I just know this is going to be amazing when it's finished.

    How pumped are you precisely?

  7. Man this is awesome news. God I am so excited to see this when its done. Good luck with production!

  8. Hopefully you will make a nice amount of money from this. How hard could it be to find a distributor with such a big fan base? It would be sweet to get a DVD with the bonus features being a selection of your best short films.

Use the making-of as a teaser to promote it online, then have it for sale on DVD before releasing it for free like you do with the rest of your films.

Sorry, these are just casual suggestions, I'm sure you already have a solid plan. Can't wait to experience it.

  9. Woah there, am I ever stoked for this?! Girrus!

  10. I'm really excited for this movie. I'm a huge fan of all your work. Me and a couple of my friends even still listen to the MC Devvo fairly regularly, haha. Also, The newest Burnt Face Man was definitely in my top two or three episodes. Keep up the good work!

  11. I meant "the MC Devvo CD."

  12. Please let us know the story of the making of this "making of" post of the "making of" video.

  13. @MrAlchemy I may put some short stuff on to the DVD as extras, but I have been looking into making a DVD of my short cartoons anyway. The biggest problem here is obtaining audio rights for them all, especially as I lost a bunch of my original flash files in a hard drive failure and would have difficulty changing the background music without them.

  14. I agree with 衝動 although I must add that the section on 踴躍的 was questionable at best

  15. im really pleased to hear about the "making of" which I guess you'll put that with the vid?

  17. @ Dave "I lost a bunch of my original flash files in a hard drive failure and would have difficulty changing the background music without them"

    No problem there > http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdecompiler/

Just decompile, change sound and recompile :)

  18. Thanks Michel. I have good quality mpegs of most of my work, but my SWF files have low quality audio, usually 24-32kbs. They would be way too crappy for DVD.

  19. Hi David!

I hear you're going to make a DVD with a bunch of your short cartoons. I also hear you have to get audio rights. Is this because of the music tracks you use in them? I'm just curious.

Also, are people living here in the US going to be able to buy the DVDs, both of your short cartoons and the Meadow Man? I hope so.

And can you, as of yet, give us a quick plot synopsis of the Meadow Man? I'm very interested in hearing what this is going to be about.

  20. Lol wtf is up with the Chinese SEO spam :P
The text is nonsense and every dot at the end is a link to some dodgy site!

  21. Fantastical wacky stuff. I look forward to getting my next fix.

  22. Hey Dave
Just dropping in to congratulate you for all of your amazing work so far. Your unique style has inspired many, including me. I am very excited for your upcoming project. Hopefully, it will be as or more successful then Salad Fingers. I wish you the best of luck and encourage you to keep your imagination running!

P.S i've emailed you before regaurding this, but have yet to get a response. Hopefully you can just respond to me here: What program do you use to

    a) create your drawings and your drawings off the computer: how to scan them on

    b) what program you use to actually create the videos themself

I am very interested in starting my own video series as you have inspired me as an artist.

if you would rather respond to me on email try aloesing1@aol.com

    Thanks again!

  23. Dave, can I spam on all your posts please?

  24. In some of your cartoons you've taken to a very dynamic style of changing plots and characters rapidly, such as in World within a Sock, where the scene changed a lot. Is this going to be like that? Is it going to be like any other cartoon you've done?

    ReplyDelete
  25. You could probably get a preview at Hyde Park Cinema. One of my friends is a manager, should be OK.

    ReplyDelete
  26. David, I'm obsessed with your work and I would like to send you a Salad Fingers script that I wrote as a tribute of sorts. You don't have to use it, I just thought might get a laugh out of it is all. What e-mail address can I send this to?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Haha, a "making of" video. Brilliant!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi David!
Are you doing Meadow Man now?
I am very interested to know that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Dave,

I noticed you mentioned that you weren't able to change the music from your swfs because you lost the fla files.

Something similar happened to me and I was able to get a fairly accurate fla from the swf using a program called Sothink SWFDecompiler.

This should hopefully allow you to change any audio that you need to :)

  30. I suppose you can't spoil to us little details like what animation technique you are gonna use right? I know you are very talented at stop motion too, besides the flash animation.

I'm so looking forward to this, your work is the most re-watchable thing on the internet. Your voiec is kind of addictive. You helped me great deal on english pronunciation.

Hopefully none of your fans are dying of cancer or other terminal disease, they all most live to see this.

  31. Hey David, I'm a long time fan of yours. I love all of your work; especially the darker stuff such as Spoilsbury Toast Boy, Salad Fingers and that beautifully morose one-off, Scribbler.

I was just wondering if you're still working on Meadow Man? I've been excited to hear news about it ever since I first heard about it!

    Thanks for your time!

  32. Is this movie of yours happening? what about a quick update

    ReplyDelete
  33. it's been a year. update please!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love your work . that's all . nothing to add

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why is it when I type 'David F' into google search, david firth isnt top of the list?
Who the fuck is David Faustino?

    ReplyDelete
  36. by the way, i think he should tell everyone that its off and he cant be arsed with any of it anymore, that hes going to retire the animation game entirely.
Then he can make a golden greatest hits DVD with special never seen before footage.

And once people have got used to the fact that Firth wont ever create again, come back strong with The Meadow Man..

Maybe call it The Meadow Man 2? Then people will create rumours that the first one is on some usb stick in some secret high security depositary. People will make fakes and sell them on e-bay for thousands.

    Its all about the hype.

  37. Although it seems that the movie is no longer being crafted, for lack of updates, I would still like to impose upon Mr. Firth that his work has inspired me for years. I also wish him well being, and as well as a dire wish to see a full length feature, although I am really just glad to have been able to enjoy his work at all.

    ReplyDelete
  38. ...........I wonder what happened to this?

    ReplyDelete
  39. If you just take a look at Twitter (http://twitter.com/DAVID_FIRTH), you'll see that things they are a-happening. Be calm little pigs, the there will sound and moving photographs from the artist, and your brains will burn with that special fire of madness, disgust and laughter we all know and love.

  40. A nice little update would be good though.

    ReplyDelete
  41. If I were doing a project like this, I would make dumb updates all the time even if there were no updates to make XD. I do appreciate how concise and to the point the updates are :/ I can conclude that either *lots* of work is being done, or this project is on hold for something. Either way, good luck.

  42. We're waiting for you David. You cocksucking cunt.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Right. You went "a little bit insane". "a little bit". "went". How is that even possible, you're as mad as can be.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Are you even alive still, and what the hell is going on woman.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Only release the 'making of' thing please, but all chopped up. It would probably be alot like Plup Fiction :D
