This is a blog about The Meadow Man, a feature length animation in the works By David Firth. This is mainly a solo project so it will take many years. Don't worry, this project is still alive!

Well......

I must admit, I haven't been very good at updating this blog. This post will consist of a series of excuses. Let's start with a quote:

"It doesn't matter how slowly you, so long as you do not stop"
I don't remember who said that, or if I quoted it properly, but it fits. I have not stopped making The Meadow Man, but I am not doing much to it at the moment. Let's try and understand why:

1. I needed to make some money so I did some freelance stuff.
2. I dedicated a few months to the Meadow Man then needed to make money again.
3. I went a little bit insane.
4. I took a break from my work and went on a travelling adventure to America.
5. Now I am back without a place of my own and all my stuff in boxes.
6. I need to make money again.
7. Global financial crisis.
8. I need to re-write it.
9. I wasn't lying when I said it would take forever.

So all you need to know is that I still will make it, but I need money, workspace, a team of robots and a load of other essential life elements to prevent me from going insane again. Duke Nukem Forever came out eventually and so will The Meadow Man - hopefully it won't be a big steaming pile of shit like Duke. I promise it won't.

Right now I am currently doing a lot of writing and having the occasional meeting. Not for The Meadow Man but for other exciting projects. One day I will finish everything I have started and then have a little sleep. Then I will start a set of new projects and keep people waiting again. I shall repeat this until I die.

  1. Alright! Good to hear that something's up. Good luck with all that stuff!

  2. While all your reasons are appreciated, don't feel obligated. We are still waiting patiently. Please don't go insane, we need to see more from you yet...

  3. We will wait as long as it takes.
Good things come to those who something, something, etc

  4. You could probably ask people to donate?

    ReplyDelete
  5. You could solicit donations in return for future copies of a DVD or something, even on a sliding scale. I'd donate. There's infrastructure for this: http://www.kickstarter.com/

  6. ^^Good ideas. I think this would do really well as a kickstarter project. I mean, I still watch my devvo DVD every Sunday with the family.

  7. Kickstart would be awesome. Good to see a blogpost though ;)

  8. Thanks for you hard work, David. Although we all appreciate your effort into Meadow Man, I wonder if I'm the only one who is curious about your other projects (Salad Fingers, Spoilsbury Toast Boy). I hope we'll see some more of them soon.

  9. "That sounds disgusting."
    "I see you're not excited."
    "Well, back to the shape."

  10. The thing that has been bouncing around in my head is what could POSSIBLY drive the creator of Salad Fingers, Spoilsbury Toast Boy, Drillbithead, Dog of Man, and many other such wonderfully surreal and absurd projects, even a little bit insane? Honestly, this keeps me awake at night. Whatever it is, Cthulhu should probably take notes from it.

  11. Hello! Do you mind gathering money from those who like you or your work? I'd like to help, but can I do it without buying any stuff, just directly sending some money?
There is a project called "circles" allowing people to pay for what they download - I hope you'll get interested and join it http://kroogi.com/explore?locale=en

  12. Nice to know! I check this website every couple weeks, glad to finally hear some good news.

  13. I would totally make a donation if you set something up for that. I'd rather do that than buy something in the fat-pie gift shop because I bet you only get a fraction oft hat.

  14. Well I love your dedication to what you're doing, I love your animations and as long as u keep working at it i will check back every day to keep track :)

  15. I was under the impression you were doing pretty well off freelance stuff and t-shirts. Its easy to forget the crisis while living in a nice part of town, working for a growing food chain. I will try to donate in the future; your work has been an important part of my otherwise bland and pathetic life. Thanks for fixing the Devvo links; I hope you do the same for everything else you had on Google video.

I wish I had known you were visiting the US... I plan on making my own pilgrimage to the UK this summer (Hope Aphex Twin will still be doing shows), then totally letting go somewhere nuts within the next decade.

  16. Good luck!!! Everything is gonna be fine.

im a fan of you :)

  17. Hi David, glad to finally see an update, hope you get some digs sorted ASAP. Have you thought about setting up a Kickstarter or IndieGoGo fund for the MM film? James Rolfe of Cinemassacre did one recently for his movie and got almost double the $75,000 he required. I'm sure with the army of Fat Pie fans out there you could get a decent amount of cash so that you can concentrate on the film. Only problem would be you may feel obligated to actually get it finished!

  18. I think you should open up a donation. I wouldn't be able to give much, but I'd definitely pay if it meant helping out and getting to see the Meadow Man.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Polythene Tez expressed my opinion exactly. I would gladly donate to help move Meadow Man along.

  20. It's nice to see an update. Thanks. Don't go insane.

  21. Go however insane you care to go, and come back from it whenever you want, because your work and presumably the mind it comes from is quite beautifully erratic. After I buy myself a PC I'd gladly give money to fund whatever you'd care to do with it. Your things that you've put on the internet made a large and very fun impact on my late childhood and sense of humor. Because of your shit, I began to laugh at things that most people I know would never dare to laugh at. It introduced me to a lot of crazy concepts, at the time I hadn't seen much like your type of work, and it led to me finding a bunch of other influences and going down a certain path of thought and (get this) sort of ways of life. I might even go as far as saying I might not be the same person I am today had I never watched your things. It is sort of strange for me to be posting this on the internet, after how long it's been since I was obsessed with your stuff and showing it to all of my friends, but I really just felt strangely compelled to tell you. I wanted you to know, that as an artist or a filmmaker or a cartoonist or whatever you could possibly be called, you have made an impact in this world. So if you actually read this, feel good, because you've made someone very happy.

  22. no doubt - people will absolutely send in their nickels and dimes to get this thing rolling

  23. Great thoughts you got there, believe I may possibly try just some of it throughout my daily life.

just linked this article on my facebook account. it’s a very interesting article for all.

  24. One scene at a time, so it doesn't seem so overwhelming.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just keep going. And don't forget to brush your teeth, because that is important.

    ReplyDelete
  26. it was Confucius who made that quote.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Can I just say that Salad Fingers is my FAVOURITE show EVER? I just discovered it recently and I thought it was the most fascinating "cartoon" ever made. Its production should not cease. However, since you are feeling rather overwhelmed, you could pace everything and relax for a bit. After all, your scripts ARE massive! Good luck and hope you feel better! :)

  28. Dog of man made me cry. Keep it up. Your mind needs to be expressed to open up the minds of others

  29. idea you could go get sum blake cds copie all of you favorit shows but only make like say 200 copies at $50 a pice that way u still raise your money and only a few people can have originals then after you know so on and so forth

  30. You are an artist with a very loyal fanbase. I check your website regularly, even if you haven't updated it for a year. Keep it up, in your own time, don't let pressure get to you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'm so glad you are still around David. For a while I thought you abandoned the meadow man due to general life issues.

Your cartoons have had a massive impact on me in a very good way. My favorite one is still Ptikobj. When I wantch it, it blows my mind the same amount it did when I watched it the first time.

Your animations, artwork, drawing style and unique characters are absolutely fantastic, and your cartoons have brought smiles to my face for many a dark day in my life.

    I salute you.

  33. Next time you want a real adventure you come to California and stop in LA! You got a name out here and we will show you a damn good time!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Have you ever considered doing a fund campaign through indiegogo or something of the sort? I'd donate what I could.

    ReplyDelete
  35. your stuff is special. it understands. thank you

  36. You should go insane, it will make it better!

  37. I TRIED TO GO TO FAT-PIE.COM AND TYPED FATPIE.COM
    AND CAME ACROSS PORN. >:(
(Take your time, everything you do ends up great anyways)

  38. Kickstarter? I'm sure you would get a good amount of funding.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I miss your animations, dawg.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Nice job, keep it going, you'r the best.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'd be willing to donate a few pennies!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Another vote for Kickstarter here. With a suitably descriptive and funny\weird pitch video, and your creative history, you should be able to get a whopping budget together to work on this thing.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Mr Firth you absolute double horse power! We all know you're going to get meadow man out, complete, finished and done and it's. going. to. be. AWESOME.
Keep badgering away and look forward to that beer factory you're going to buy with the profits. and cat factory.
triple meow power to you good sir.

Ba ha ha, I remember the time I forgot the hyphen. Fortunately, I did not have anyone standing behind me.

Mr. Firth, please continue to work on this project when you have time and resources. The fruit of your brain-tree is always succulent.

  49. I would love to donate a few dollars every month! Is there any way I can do that? If not you should totally make a donations section in here or in fat-pie. And reading the comments above me it seems a lot of people are willing to donate as well.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think if you made a kickstarter drive for this project you might be able to raise enough funds to clear your mind. I mean you wont get any from me as my wallet has financial warts. But i think you could make something happen with that. The guy above me wants to donate so yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I dont care if it takes 20 years, I'll still be on the edge of my seat waiting for Meadow Man. Keep it up, Firth. :)

  52. waiting....waiting .... waintingggggggg... favorite artist ever... and I can relate, I have night terrors and all of the above, i feel like we should have been friends, cause then I'de have one person on this planet to relate to. This world is such a complex place, and like you said, your art is so much more complex than even you could have imagined. talk about art, dude you make andy warhol look like drunken scribbles.

    ReplyDelete
  53. and as for sanity, I definitely can relate to a mental breakdown or 15. You've got my support any way you need it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. That's funny, I left a comment here over a year ago, and I still check this blog every month or so. I imagine I'll keep doing that for a long time. If Meadow Man makes it, it will have received more than half the anticipation I have ever given out.

  57. Still on board for this and hoping to see it whenever it's complete.

    ReplyDelete
  58. David, have you considered setting up a kickstarter to help move Meadowman along, while paying the bills?

I've been a long-time fan, and I would love to show everyone I know your feature-length project.

    ReplyDelete
  59. The kickstarter thing is a good idea! I bet a lot of people would like to see this completed. I do animation, myself, so I know how tough it can be at times. If I could contribute my talents in any way then I would! But I do a lot of freelance stuff to pay the bills, too, so I understand that.

The kickstarter is a great idea though!

  60. Don't think this guy is particularly interested in interfacing with his fans. Have asked politely on twitter multiple times and once on this blog whether the project was still happening.

The blog post was something like "How's it goig? Hope to see an update" or something like that and he deleted the post.

He also ignored all the twitter requests from me and several others.

Overall, as much fun as his animations are to watch, he seems to be a bit of a prick.

So overall? I hope this project fails along with his career :)
